A Venice guide built on sources you can check

Most Venice travel sites repeat each other. Visit Venice starts from the primary record instead: peer-reviewed papers on the lagoon, the Republic and its crafts, the official tariffs and regulations published by the Comune di Venezia, and the institutions that run the city's museums and transport. Every claim that comes from a source is cited on the page, and every page that quotes a price or an opening time shows the date it was last checked.

How a page gets written

Each guide begins with a reading list, not a keyword. Scientific and historical pages are drafted from full-text academic articles, with page-numbered extractions kept in a research vault so that a figure on the site can be traced back to the paragraph it came from. Practical pages (transport, tickets, fees) are checked against the operator or the Comune, and the “Facts verified” date under the title tells you when that happened.

Citations follow APA style and appear in the “Learn More” list on every sourced page, with a link to the DOI or publisher when one exists. We prefer open-access papers so readers can follow the trail without a subscription.

When sources disagree, we say so in the text rather than picking the more convenient number. When we cannot verify a figure, we leave it out.

Who is behind it

Visit Venice is an independent editorial project. No tourism board, tour operator or venue pays for coverage or reviews copy before it is published, and the site has no commercial ties to the places it describes. Pages are revised as new research or regulations appear, and the “Updated” date reflects the last substantive edit.

How the site earns money

Some pages include booking links to partners such as GetYourGuide and Booking.com. If you book through one of those links we may earn a commission; the price you pay is unchanged. Partners have no say in what we write or which places we recommend. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

Prices, schedules and regulations in Venice change often. If you find something out of date, we want to know. Corrections are logged and the page's verification date is updated when the fix is confirmed against the source.
