Venice in July: Weather, Redentore, Tides and Costs

What is the weather like in Venice in July?

Hot, bright and dry, with almost nothing separating it from August. Over the 1991 to 2020 reference period the daily maximum averages 27.2 degrees C and the overnight minimum 19.8 degrees C, which is 2.4 degrees above June and 0.2 degrees below August at the top of the day (Open-Meteo, 2026). Every one of the 31 afternoons reaches 20 degrees C or more in an average year, about 25.5 reach 25 degrees C and about 4.1 reach 30 degrees C. The warmest July afternoon in the reanalysis series was 34.1 degrees C on 22 July 2015.

Station observations run hotter, because the recording site at Venezia Tessera sits off the water. Across the 572 July days the series covers, the mean maximum is 28.6 degrees C and the mean minimum 20.1 degrees C, with 36.1 degrees C the warmest July afternoon, on 21 July 2006, and 13.0 degrees C the coolest July night, on 5 July 2007 (Meteostat, 2026).

Rain totals 59.9 mm over about 7.9 wet days, against 76.7 mm in June and 83.4 mm in August, and the wettest single July day in the period delivered 59.0 mm, on 15 July 2002 (Open-Meteo, 2026). When July rains it tends to arrive in one thunderstorm rather than a wet week. Sunshine is the month's real distinction, at about 415 hours, ahead of June on 388 and August on 379.

Does Venice flood in July?

No July flood appears anywhere in the register. Tide heights are measured against the Punta della Salute datum of 1897, and 80 cm above it is where the lowest ground in Piazza San Marco begins to flood (ISPRA, 2026).

Of the 324 tides of 110 cm or more recorded at Venice between 1872 and 2019, not one fell in July. July and August are the only two months of the year with a count of zero. November holds 108 of the 324, December 79, October 45, February 36, January 28, March 11, April 8, May 5, June 2 and September 2 (ISPRA, Comune di Venezia & CNR-ISMAR, 2026). The register of exceptional tides tells the same story: none of the 25 events of 140 cm or more listed for 1872 to 2019 fell in July, and the all time high of 194 cm was set on 4 November 1966.

The pattern has held since the MOSE barriers entered service. The 61 events of 110 cm or more logged at Venice and at the offshore Acqua Alta platform between 2020 and 2024 include no July reading, and the only summer entry in the whole table is 115 cm measured at the platform on 28 August 2023.

Low water is a July non-event too. All 41 tides of 90 cm below datum or lower recorded from 1923 to 2024 fall between December and March, 20 of them in February alone.

When is the Festa del Redentore in 2027?

The Redentore falls on the third Sunday of July, which in 2027 is 18 July. It has been kept on that Sunday since the plague of 1575 to 1577 was declared over on 13 July 1577 (Patriarcato di Venezia, 2026).

The night most people come for is the Saturday before. In 2026 the votive bridge across the Giudecca canal was opened and blessed at 19.00 on Friday 17 July at the Riva delle Zattere allo Spirito Santo, the fireworks were fired over the Bacino di San Marco from 23.30 on Saturday 18 July, and the votive mass was celebrated at 19.00 on Sunday 19 July in the basilica on the Giudecca (Patriarcato di Venezia, 2026; Venezia Unica, 2026). On the same pattern the 2027 fireworks fall on Saturday 17 July, though no 2027 programme had been published.

Watching from land now needs a booking. In 2026 the three ground areas of San Marco, the Zattere and the Giudecca were divided into numbered sectors with a capped capacity, bookable online only, at most four people per booking, from age six, with a QR code shown at the gate. Venice residents booked first and the rest opened to everyone else from 9 July. Pedestrian transit across the votive bridge stopped at 18.30 on the night of the fireworks (Venezia Unica, 2026).

Watching afloat is booked by the skipper, across eight mooring areas from the Gesuati to the Arsenale plus one for gondolas, with the printed ticket shown on board (Venezia Unica, 2026).

What else is on in Venice in July 2027?

The Architecture Biennale runs right through the month. The 20th International Architecture Exhibition, titled Do Architecture, opens on 8 May and closes on 21 November 2027, after a pre-opening on 6 and 7 May, so every day of July falls inside it. Opening hours and 2027 ticket prices were not published when this page was written (La Biennale di Venezia, 2026).

The dance festival is the other July fixture. The 20th International Festival of Contemporary Dance ran from 17 July to 1 August 2026 with more than 60 events and 150 artists, and the Biennale has confirmed its artistic director for 2027 and 2028 without publishing dates (La Biennale di Venezia, 2026). On the 2026 pattern it overlaps the Redentore weekend and runs into the first days of August.

No Italian public holiday falls inside July, the national date being 2 June (Normattiva, 2026), so the month carries no long weekend of its own and the crowd pattern follows the school holidays and the Redentore instead.

The one date to build a day around is the Sunday of the Redentore, when the rowing regattas are held on the Giudecca canal and the votive mass closes the evening in the church across the water. The film festival sits outside the month: the 83rd Venice International Film Festival ran from 2 to 12 September 2026 on the Lido, and no 2027 dates had been announced (La Biennale di Venezia, 2026).

Long evenings, late openings and the Lido

July keeps almost all the light of the solstice. On 1 July 2027 Venice gets 15 hours 40 minutes of daylight, sunrise at 05.24 and sunset at 21.04 local time, four minutes short of the longest day of the year on 21 June. By 31 July it is down to 14 hours 50 minutes, sunrise 05.51 and sunset 20.42, so the month sheds 50 minutes across its 31 days, and civil twilight ends at about 21.40 on 1 July and about 21.14 on 31 July (Sunrise-Sunset.org, 2026).

The main sites run their longest timetable of the year. The Doge's Palace is open 09.00 to 19.00 from 1 April to 31 October with last admission at 18.00, and every Friday and Saturday from 1 May to 26 September it stays open to 23.00 with last admission at 22.00, which covers the whole of July (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026). The Campanile is on summer hours, opening at 09.30 with last entry between 20.00 and 20.30 and closing at 21.15, and the Basilica opens 09.30 to 17.15 Monday to Saturday, at 14.00 on Sundays (Procuratoria di San Marco, 2026).

The Adriatic is at its most usable. Off the Lido the daily mean sea surface temperature averaged 26.1 degrees C across the three Julys of 2023 to 2025, against 22.9 degrees C in June (Open-Meteo, 2026). A return waterbus ticket to Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta on route 14 is 16.00 EUR, valid until 24.00 on the day of travel (ACTV, 2026).

What does a visit to Venice in July cost?

July is the cheapest of the charged months to arrive in, and the end of the month is free.

Under the 2026 calendar the access fee applied on 60 days from 3 April to 26 July, between 08.30 and 16.00. Twelve of those days were in July, fewer than June's 16, May's 15 or April's 17, and every one of them was a Friday, Saturday or Sunday: 3 to 5, 10 to 12, 17 to 19 and 24 to 26 July. The season ended there, so 27 to 31 July carried no charge at all and no Monday to Thursday in the month was charged (Venice Visit Pass, 2026). The fee is 5.00 EUR if paid by the fourth day before arrival and 10.00 EUR after that, applies from age 14, and covers the historic centre alone, with hotel guests and Veneto residents exempt. No 2027 calendar had been published when this page was written.

Transport is unchanged by season. A single 75 minute Rete Unica ticket is 9.50 EUR, the Venezia Daily Pass 25.00 EUR, and multi-day passes 35.00, 45.00 and 65.00 EUR for two, three and seven days. A three day Rolling Venice ticket is 27.00 EUR for ages 6 to 29 on a 6.00 EUR card (ACTV, 2026).

The St Mark's Square museums ticket covering the Doge's Palace is 35.00 EUR full, 15.00 EUR reduced, or 30.00 EUR online at least thirty days ahead (Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, 2026).

Is July a good time to visit Venice?

It is the driest, sunniest and least flood prone month of the year, and it is the hottest month to walk a city with very little shade.

The case for July is strong on paper. It gives a 27.2 degrees C average maximum, about 415 hours of sunshine, 59.9 mm of rain, sea temperatures off the Lido at 26.1 degrees C and daylight that holds past 21.00 all month (Open-Meteo, 2026; Sunrise-Sunset.org, 2026). Flooding can be set aside: no tide of 110 cm or more has been recorded in July since measurements began in 1872 (ISPRA, Comune di Venezia & CNR-ISMAR, 2026). The access fee is lighter than in any other charged month and stops entirely on 26 July.

The case against is the heat and the pressure of the Redentore weekend. About four July afternoons a year pass 30 degrees C in the reference period and the station record at Tessera stands at 36.1 degrees C, with the middle of the afternoon the part of the day to spend indoors or on the water. In 2025 July recorded the lowest mean atmospheric pressure of the year, 1012.4 hPa (ISPRA, 2026).

August makes the useful comparison. It is 0.2 degrees warmer, 23.5 mm wetter, 36 hours less sunny and carried no access fee at all in 2026. If the aim is settled weather and long evenings, July wins, and the cheapest way to take it is a Monday to Thursday arrival, which the 2026 calendar left free all month.
